Description

11 Castle Place in Montrose is an early 19th-century tenement building that stands three stories tall with an attic and features four bays. It is part of an irregular terrace and has shops on the ground floor. The front is made of stugged sandstone ashlar, with a cornice above the ground floor, a cill band course at the second floor, and a blocking course that includes a central panel for the chimney. The building has raised quoins.

On the northwest elevation, there is an off-centre left entrance to a pend with a timber gate. Inside the pend, there are three doorways, with the central doorway on the right featuring a pilastered and corniced doorpiece set in a round-arched recess. The pend ceilings have two three-centred arches. To the right of the pend, the shopfront is tripartite, with two-leaf outer doors in the center flanked by plate glass windows and glazed vestibule doors. The shopfront to the left has two-leaf doors, a rectangular fanlight with geometric glazing, and a window to the left, with a blocked cellar opening beneath the cill that has decorative iron brattishing. The first and second floors have regular fenestration, with two bowed dormers above.

The building features 12-pane timber sash and case windows on the first floor, one on the second floor, and in the dormers. The roof is pitched with graded grey slate, has coped skews, and broad brick gablehead stacks.
