Description
7 Castle Place in Montrose is an early 19th century, three-storey, three-bay tenement that is part of an irregular terrace and features a shop on the ground floor. The front is made of sandstone ashlar, which has recently been refaced with lined render. Notable architectural details include a cornice above the ground floor, a cill band course at the second floor, an eave cornice, and a blocking course with a raised central panel. The building has raised quoins.
On the northwest elevation, there is a shopfront with two-leaf panelled doors, a glazed vestibule door, and large flanking windows with low stall risers, all featuring plate glass. The first and second floors have regular fenestration.
The northeast elevation adjoins 5/6 Castle Place, while the southwest elevation adjoins 9-11 Castle Place. The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate pitched roof with coped skews, and broad brick gablehead stacks.
