Description
Sunnybank is a mid-19th century, two-storey house located at 2 Seafield Terrace in Portsoy. It features a wide, three-bay south-facing facade, with short screen walls set back from the front and projecting from the return elevations, which creates an elongated appearance. The building is constructed of mixed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar sandstone dressings. The centre bay is slightly advanced and includes a hoodmoulded entrance with a late 19th-century panelled door, side lights, and a fanlight above.
A narrow bandcourse acts as a cill course for the first-floor centre window. The wallhead parapet is blocked and raised at the centre, adorned with simple scrolled and foliated decoration that encompasses a small blank shield. The outer bays feature hoodmoulded bipartite windows. The glazing consists of two- and four-pane designs, and the house has coped end wallhead stacks and a piended slate roof. Each side screen wall ends with a giant panelled and corniced pilaster topped by a panelled obelisk finial, along with blind quatrefoil ornamentation. The west screen wall conceals a single-storey service range that was formerly the Free Church School, and there are various outbuildings at the rear.
Inside, the house has simple moulded ceiling cornices, plain chimneypieces with renewed grates, decorative cast-iron balusters on the staircase, and panelled doors. The garden is enclosed by rubble walls, with renewed gate piers at the entrance.
