Description
Kirkside House is an old house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, which features a plain design. An additional new house was constructed at right angles in the early 19th century, with a southwest front. The building is two stories with a basement and has a three-window facade made of droved ashlar. It includes a curved and arched staircase leading to a Roman Doric columned doorpiece with a pediment, flanked by pilastered Venetian windows. A new northwest wing was added by Sir Robert S. Lorimer in 1913, which is also two stories with a basement, featuring a serpentine southwest bow gable with tripartite windows on the ground floor and a single light window on the first floor. The interior is notable for its woodwork executed by Nathaniel Grieve. Further alterations were made by Wm Davidson and M. M. Ochterlony in 1928.
