Description
South Lodge, located on the Pitfour House Estate, dates from around 1850 and was altered around 1910. It is a two-storey, three-bay building featuring single light windows in the outer bays on the south (road) elevation, which flank a central bipartite window. This layout may suggest that it was originally a pair of cottages with a dividing wall in the center. The principal elevations (south and east) are constructed of granite ashlar, while the north and west sides are harled. The shallow piended slate roof, with red clay ridge tiles from around 1910, has overhanging timber bracketed eaves. The entrance is located in a piend-roofed rear porch, which is likely an addition. A tall wallhead stack is positioned centrally over the rear wall. The windows feature plate glass sashes, with the larger outer bay windows on the front wall having four panes.
