Description

The Bridge of Deer in Old Deer is likely from around 1800, although a keystone dated 1727 suggests it may incorporate elements from an earlier bridge. The structure was widened on the west side in the late 19th century. It features two semi-circular arches for the river, along with a small flood arch. The bridge is constructed from rough ashlar stone, with bull-faced voussoirs and a cutwater on the west side. It has a stepped parapet, and there are lampholders and hooks that may be remnants of a tollbar at the southern approach.
