Description
Deer Parish Church in Old Deer was built between 1788 and 1789. It is constructed of rectangular squared granite with cherry cocking. The south front features four round-arched windows, while the east and west sides have Venetian windows, all adorned with dropped keystones. Originally, the pulpit was located at the center of the south wall, and there was a horseshoe gallery. The interior has been rearranged to face east, and it includes a west gallery. The church has a slim tower topped with a slated pyramid spire and a porch, which were added by R. Raeburn from Edinburgh between 1880 and 1881, with the tower designed by Sir George Reid, a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. Further alterations, including the pulpit, table, font, and other features, were made by A. Marshall Mackenzie in 1898. The church also houses a bell from Mears, dated 1830.
