Description
The Birse War Memorial, designed by Dr. William Kelly around 1920, is a square-plan, squat obelisk dedicated to those who served in the 1st and 2nd World Wars. It is constructed from coursed, rough-faced grey and pink granite. The memorial features a base course and a tooled shaft adorned with a consecration cross and bands of lettering, with the top band reading "IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF BIRSE WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR." It is topped with a stepped, finely finished pyramidal cap.
