Description

Finzean Parish Church, dated 1863, is a single-storey, near-symmetrical church with a rectangular plan and a vestry added in 1934 to the east. The exterior is harled with finely finished margins and features pointed-arched openings and boarded doors.

The south elevation is near symmetrical with five bays. It has a gabled porch that projects from the centre bay, featuring a two-leaf door with a simple hoodmould and decorative ironwork finial at the apex. There are small windows on the left and right returns, and regular fenestration in the flanking bays. A granite war memorial is located on the wall between the two bays to the left.

The east elevation is symmetrical and gabled, with a large window in the centre flanked by two smaller windows, and a decorative ironwork finial at the apex. The 1934 vestry is advanced to the centre at ground level, with a gabled left return that has three windows and a flat-arched door to the left. The right return is blank but features a coped stack at the gablehead.

The north elevation is blank, while the west elevation is symmetrical with two regularly spaced windows. It includes a tooled granite datestone set in the gablehead, displaying the Finzean Farquharsons monogram and the date "1863." A sandstone bellcote is situated at the apex, with the bell and bell-pull still in place.

The church has predominantly decorative stained glass windows, protected by an outer pane of plate glass. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and features intricate cast-iron cresting. The skews are coped with simple skewputts, and the rainwater goods are made of cast iron.

Inside, the church has a wagon roof with exposed beams and reeded timber lining below the dado. It contains simple timber pews, which are replacements, and a pulpit, along with a decorative carved gothic communion table. A two-leaf glazed and panelled timber door leads east to the vestry.
