Description

Easter Clune is a traditional early 18th century house, dated 1719, with later alterations and 20th century additions that now form a T-shaped plan. The original building is a single storey with an attic, and has three bays. It is constructed from lime-harled granite rubble, with polished sandstone margins to the later addition. A rubble base course is present, with a dressed stone base course and projecting cills to the addition, and gableted windows breaking the eaves.

The south elevation is symmetrical, with an addition to the left. A small-pane timber door is centrally positioned on the ground floor, above which is a tooled panel reading "AI-MS 1719". Windows are located on either side of the door, and regular fenestration is found on the ground and attic floors, with raised dormerheads over the attic windows. A single-bay link connects to the left, featuring a panelled timber door flanked by two 10-pane windows, and a small dormer in the attic. A gabled addition, dated "1988", projects to the outer left, containing a granite "cheesepress" at ground floor, two windows on the ground floor, one window to the left of the attic floor, and two single-pane windows in the gablehead. The right return of the addition has regular fenestration, with a tooled date stone reading "GH-JF 1988" set into the gable of the attic window overlooking the garden, and two small windows flanking it to the right.

The east elevation is gabled, with an 8-pane window off-centre on both the ground and attic floors. The north elevation is symmetrical with three bays, and later additions to the right. A window is centrally positioned on both the ground and attic floors, and a single-bay link adjoins to the right, featuring two 4-pane windows on the ground floor and a centrally placed window above. A gabled bay projects outwards to the right, incorporating two windows on the ground floor, one window off-centre to the left of the attic floor, and two single-pane windows set into the gablehead, with a single window to the left return.

The west elevation is asymmetrical and four-bay, with a gableted porch projecting to the left with a window off-centre to the right. A wall with a gateway extends to the left, followed by a single-story garage to the west. A panelled timber door is located to the right return, alongside a window to the left return. Windows are located flanking the porch on the left and three windows to the right. Three windows are on the left of the attic floor, with a tooled panel displaying a painted Lion Rampant in the centre, and blind panels on either side.

The windows are predominantly 6-pane and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered in purple-grey slate, with tiled and stone ridges. Stone skews are present, featuring simple skewputts, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not inspected in 1999.

A granite cheese press is located to the left of the south wall of the house. Boundary walls, constructed of random granite rubble, extend to the southeast of the house, incorporating a vertical section of a castle wall, which are believed to be remnants of the former Castle of Easter Clune.
