Description

The Manager's Drawing Office at the Great North of Scotland Locomotive Works in Inverurie was designed by William Pickersgill between 1902 and 1905. This rectangular building features two storeys, a basement at the rear, and an attic, situated on a sloping site. It is a large structure with modern additions and linking sections at the rear that are not included in the listing. The design incorporates a mix of classical and other detailing, including projecting skews and skewputts. The building is primarily constructed of squared, coursed granite rubble with ashlar dressings. Notable architectural elements include a base course, a first-floor cill course, a double eaves band, and an eaves cornice, with predominantly regular fenestration.

On the southwest elevation, there is a four-bay facade featuring a projecting flat-roofed single-storey entrance hall at the centre. The ground floor of this section has a timber-panelled door with narrow margin lights set within an opening that has a shaped lintel. Above this, there is an open-topped pediment flanked by finialled consoles, breaking the eaves cornice. The attic floor displays a gable on the left and a long pilastered dormer on the right.

The northwest elevation consists of six bays, with a corbel table located beneath the eaves band on the right side. The northeast elevation has three bays, featuring a full-height canted bay window on the left, with projecting link sections to an extension at the ground and first floors, and a gable on the right side of the roof. The southeast elevation is characterized by an M-gabled design.

The glazing throughout the building predominantly consists of single-pane windows in timber sash and case style, along with several rooflights.
