Description
The County Hotel, located at 151 King Street in Aberdeen, was designed by Arthur Clyne and built in 1894. This former hotel is a three-storey building with an attic and features nine bays. It has distinctive keystoned horseshoe-arched openings on the ground floor, which have been converted into flats since 1986. The exterior is constructed from rock-faced granite with broad ashlar courses and includes cill courses.
The central entrance consists of an eight-panel, two-leaf timber door topped by a semicircular fanlight. Above, there is a central dormer with a pediment, flanked by tall stacks and finial detail. The building also has flanking two-light dormers with tall blocking courses.
The upper storeys predominantly feature plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the ground floor has multi-pane windows over three-pane designs. The roof is a mansard style, covered in grey slate, with gable stacks.
