Description

46 Belgrave Terrace is a villa built in 1886 by architects A Ellis and R G Wilson. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure made of tooled grey granite polished at the margins, with granite rubble at the rear. The building features a base course, a dividing band course, long and short dressings, an eaves course, and overhanging eaves supported by timber modillions.

The southeast elevation is symmetrical, with a central doorway on the ground floor accessed by seven stone steps. This doorway is corniced with consoles and topped by a blind panel flanked by scrolls. The entrance includes a panelled timber door with glazed panels on either side and a broad fanlight above. Canted windows in the flanking bays on the ground floor create balconies above, where there are bipartite windows on the first floor, along with a window in the centre.

The northeast elevation was not visible in 2000. The northwest elevation features an advanced bay to the left with a single-storey addition on the ground floor. It has regular fenestration and a lean-to conservatory on the right return, while the recessed flanking bays to the right were not seen in 2000. The southwest elevation also has regular fenestration.

The villa predominantly has two-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered in grey slate with a piended and platform design, featuring lead ridges. Corniced granite gablehead stacks with octagonal cans are present, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The property includes square-plan granite gatepiers on the southwest, topped with pyramidal caps. These are flanked by coped Aberdeen bond granite walls, which are surmounted by railings to the southeast.
