Description
42 and 42A Belgrave Terrace in Aberdeen is a two-storey and attic house built in 1896 by John Rust, featuring Scots Baronial detailing. The exterior is constructed from tooled coursed granite, with finely finished margins, a base course, panelled timber doors, deeply chamfered cills, and long and short quoins.
The southeast elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing a Tudor-arched doorway on the left side of the ground floor, accompanied by a small window to the left. Above, there is a window on the first floor with a crow-stepped gable that breaks the eaves, a small vertical window set in the gablehead, and a stone roundel finial at the apex. A circular angle turret is corbelled out at the left angle on the first floor, featuring a single narrow window and a fishscale slate conical roof topped with a decorative iron finial. To the right, there is a gabled bay with a three-light canted window on both the ground and first floors, which forms a balcony for the Tudor-arched attic window, also topped with a stone roundel finial.
The northeast elevation is gabled with a window that is off-centre to the right on the first floor, while the remainder was not visible in 2000. The northwest elevation was also not seen in 2000. The southwest elevation is gabled with a doorway located to the right on the ground floor.
The building predominantly features two-pane PVCu sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with a lead ridge, coped stone gablehead stacks with octagonal cans, coped stone skews with scrolled skewputts, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not visible in 2000. The property is enclosed by coped boundary walls to the southeast.
