Description
Crown Court, located at 39-45 Union Street in Aberdeen, is a five-storey and attic office building designed by R.G. Wilson in 1903, showcasing a distinctive and decorative five-bay Edwardian Baroque style. The street-facing elevation is made of grey granite ashlar, while the rear is constructed with coursed granite. The central entrance features a door beneath a deep consoled segmental canopy. The building has canted tripartite windows in the center and outer bays that extend from the first storey. The first floor is characterized by banded rustication and Gibbsian surrounds around the windows, along with cill courses. A deep mutuled cornice adorns the fourth storey, and there is a partially balustraded parapet. The large semicircular pedimented wallhead dormers include decorative panels.
The windows are predominantly timber plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are broad gable and ridge stacks.
The interior has not been fully examined as of 2006, but previous fire damage indicates that alterations have occurred.
