Description

This is a single-storey, two-bay vernacular dwelling located north of 41 Foughilletra Road, Jonesborough, Newry, County Armagh. It is accessed by a short lane bordered by rubble stone boundary walls. The house is aligned southwest-northeast on the west side of Foughilletra Road. It has a pitched corrugated metal roof with concrete skews, and a brick chimney to each gable, although the one on the right has collapsed. There are no rainwater goods. The walls are lime-rendered rubble stone.

The principal, southeast-facing elevation has a windbreak porch set to the left bay, featuring a flat brick and cement-coped roof. The front of the porch contains a tongue-and-groove sheeted door, and the sides are blank. Flanking the porch are partially collapsed two-over-two exposed-box sliding sash windows with cement-rendered brick cills. The left gable is adjoined by a single-storey outbuilding, and another outbuilding is attached to the far gable of the first. Both outbuildings are of unrendered rubble stone and have natural slate roofs with spaced slates. The outbuilding to the right has a tongue-and-groove sheeted door to the left and an infilled window opening to the rear. The outbuilding to the left has a pitched corrugated metal roof and a single door opening on the right. The rear elevation and right gable of the main house are blank.

The building appeared on Ordnance Survey maps from 1835 and 1861, but its ground plan differs from the current layout. The present dwelling is likely late 19th century in date, as it is shown on the 1907 edition of the Ordnance Survey map. The site is set back from the road and accessed via a short lane with rubble stone boundary walls, and a modern metal gate supported on one-piece granite piers. The building was formerly thatched and is now a house.
