Description
The building was a lock keeper's house, associated with the first lock on the inland section of the Newry Canal. It was likely erected during the period 1801 to 1812, coinciding with a refurbishment of the lock. Referred to as a "toll and lock house" on an Ordnance Survey map from 1861, the house was situated near the canal quay in the townland of Lisdrumgullion, near Newry, County Down. The building has been demolished and no trace of it remains. As an example of industrial archaeology, the house was of interest in its time. Sources include a publication by E.R.R. Green in 1963 and an Ordnance Survey map from 1861.
