Ardmore Hotel, Belfast Road, Newry, Co Down

The Ardmore Hotel was a two-storey building with a basement, demolished in the 1980s or 1990s. The site is now within the grounds of a Police Service of Northern Ireland (P.S.N.I.) base. Described in a 1970 survey, the building was post-1834 and presented two splayed bays to the main road, featuring string and cill courses. The walls were rendered, and the slated roof was topped with a square eaves-cornice on modillions. Paired columns with moulded caps supported an entablature forming a porch. The windows were plain sashed, and modern dormers were added to the roof. A two-storey lodge of similar character, with a modernised return, was also part of the complex and was extended in the 20th century. The hotel first appeared on a map from 1902, suggesting a later 19th-century date of construction, likely between 1880 and 1899. A gate lodge survives at the south of the site.
