The site represents the footprint of a former two-storey house, likely constructed in the 1840s. It was located near the western end of the southern side of Court Street in Newtownards. The house was demolished sometime between 1972 and 1978, and the site is now partially occupied by a small, single-storey shop with a flat roof, built in 1978.

The original house featured an “Ards” doorway—a local architectural style—along with sash windows and a slated gabled roof. Initial observations from a 1972 survey described it as a two-storey building with a slated roof and rendered chimneys. The walls were rendered, lined, and painted, with a bevel base. The first floor had three double-hung windows with Georgian panes. The ground floor contained a lintolled coachway with a sheeted door, followed by the Ards doorway, characterized by an archivolt with a keystone on blocked pillasters, a plain fanlight, and a panelled door, alongside a double-hung window. The house’s frontage was approximately 25 feet.

Court Street was laid out in the 1840s and derived its name from its association with a nearby medieval priory, which served as a courthouse between 1817 and 1850. An updated Ordnance Survey map from 1858 shows a continuous terrace along the entire length of the south side of Court Street, including the site of the former house. While the house appears to have been occupied as late as 1972, it was demolished prior to 1978, when the modern shop was constructed.
