2-4 Frederick Street, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT23 4LR

The site at 2-4 Frederick Street, Newtownards, was formerly occupied by a pair of two-storey houses with an attic, likely constructed around 1880. The buildings were demolished between approximately 1985 and 1990, and the site is now a car park adjacent to a modern building. The houses presented a late Victorian appearance, featuring facades primarily of red brick with yellow brick courses. The northern gable was of rubble construction with brick dressings. The original structure included a slated roof with gable ends and yellow brick chimneys. The front wall was brick with yellow brick moulding, creating courses at the eaves, frieze, first floor, and ground floor window levels. The left-hand gable was of stone rubble with brick dressings, containing two attic windows that were double-hung with no astragals and a five-centre arch head. The front of the building featured four double-hung windows on the first floor, also without astragals. The ground floor had a recent panelled door with a fanlight, followed by a double-hung window, another panelled door with a fanlight, and a final double-hung window. A small section of the north gable appears to have survived. The condition of the houses prior to demolition was fair, with a frontage of approximately 40 feet. The site was occupied at the time of the revised Ordnance Survey map of 1858-60.
