15 Court Street, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT23 3NX

This is a two-storey gabled terrace shop, originally built as a house in the 1840s in Newtownards, County Down. The building is located near the western end of the south side of Court Street.

The front facade, which faces north, now has a modern shop front. This includes a glazed aluminium entrance door on the right side and an adjacent large fixed window. Above the shop front is a long, painted timber signboard with modern lettering. Two sash windows with Georgian-style panes are positioned on the first floor. The facade is covered in painted lined render. The rear of the property is not accessible. The roof is gabled and covered in Bangor blue slates, with a rendered parapet, metal roof goods and a brick chimney stack.

Court Street was laid out in the 1840s, so named for the nearby medieval priory which served as a courthouse between 1817 and 1850. A revised Ordnance Survey map from 1858 shows the entire south side of the street was developed by that date, including this building. When first surveyed in 1972, the property was a house. The shop’s internal layout has been radically altered, and the shop front is modern.
