Description
This is a lock and lock keeper’s house situated on the Newry Canal. The lock chamber is approximately 60 feet long and constructed of coursed squared granite blocks. A modern concrete road bridge, featuring galvanized metal railings, spans the lock. The lock keeper’s house is a one-and-a-half-story, five-bay structure that has been rebuilt or completely renovated and finished with a cement render. It has a slate roof with raised kerbs to the gables and timber sash windows. The canal structure itself was surveyed in the First Survey but was not listed, and a partial record only was taken during the Second Survey as canal structures are not typically considered for full surveys.
