Description

Forsythe's Lock and its associated lock keepers house are located on the former Newry Canal in Carnmeen, County Down. The lock chamber itself measures approximately 60 feet in length and is constructed of coursed squared granite blocks. Adjacent to the lock is a derelict, one-and-a-half-story, three-bay lock keepers house built of random-coursed granite with red brick dressings. This complex was surveyed in the First and Second Surveys but has not been formally listed and only a partial record was taken due to its limited significance. It continues to function as a canal structure.
