Fatima, 8 Loretto Park, Dublin Road, Newry, Co Down, BT35 8SA

One of a pair of detached dwelling houses built of rusticated red brick c1954 (see also 80 Dublin Rd, HB16/29/021). Hipped red-tile roof (gabled on one rear return) with boxed overhanging eaves. Two rusticated brick chimneys, one to front pitch of façade, the other to front pitch of right elevation. Metal rainwater goods with rectangular decorated hoppers at eaves and at first floor level (where wash hand basin soil pipes leave bedrooms). Walls are of rusticated brick with soldier course heads to openings and concrete cills to windows. All windows are margin-paned casements with top-hung margin-paned transoms. The main façade has three openings: ground floor, left to right - three panelled window; French windows with sidelights and single casement window. First floor, left to right: as below, but with a pair of central casements. The left elevation contains the main entrance, recessed within a shallow projecting brick porch. Three panelled timber door with one square glazed panels either side of two central ones; bronze door furniture. The porch canopy, which has fluted edges, continues on either side as drip mouldings above top-hung casements on either side of the porch. Three individual casement windows above. The rear elevation has a two-storey return at left and at right. Rear of main block has a first floor casement window, to right of which is a tall half-landing window with coloured glass margins. ground floor has a single casement window; also glass brick window insert in wall near ground level. The left return, which abuts a garage at ground floor level, has a set of casement windows in gable at first floor. To the right of the kitchen door is a single casement. The right return is gabled plain bargeboard and quarter-glazed gable roundel. Single casement window to ground floor and two casements to first floor. Abutting left return is a brick garage (with shed extension) with a reinforced concrete roof, margin paned window to rear and sliding garage doors. Vehicular and pedestrian gate piers of brick. The pedestrian gate, of wrought metal, incorporates the word “Fatima”.
