Description
Suburban inter-war detached house with Art deco detailing on east side of main road. Roof has L shaped configuration, hipped and naturally slated, with two red brick chimneys (one on right hip and other at meeting of ridges). Overhanging boxed eaves with metal rain water goods. The walls are cement rendered with pebbledash, with smooth cement margins to corners and window reveals and a smooth base course. Windows are typically side-hung three panelled casements (three panes per panel, with fixed central panel and side-hung side panels) with soldier coursed brick heads and concrete cills. Road-facing façade comprises a front return with projection, stepped back to right. ‘Sunburst’ glazed door with reeded-glass sidelights sits in a recessed porch, the entrance to which has a brick semicircular head and jambs, with two concrete steps up to door. Name of house inscribed in stone set in wall base to left of entrance. There are two first floor casement windows, each three panels wide. Similar window (but larger) at ground floor. On right projection is a corner landing window with seven yellow glass panes to each elevation. Right elevation has a single-storey rectangular bay with flat copper roof and corner window to front. Left elevation has a recessed corner porch to left side with two cement-dressed piers supporting entrance opening (with corner window within). Right of this entrance at ground floor level is a projecting semicircular porch with flat copper roof and French windows opening onto a small cantilevered concrete balcony with bracketed metal handrail. Rear elevation has a more recent single-storey lean-to return with dashed walls and brick. This has a double glazed plastic window (with appropriate glazing panels) and modern kitchen door (again, appropriate) on right cheek. On the right corner of this elevation is a recessed corner porch (described above), with window to left elevation. At first floor are three windows, those to left and right are like those at first floor on façade; the central window (to toilet?) is one panel wide. Garage, to left rear: monopitch corrugated asbestos roof, dashed walls with raised parapet of soldier bricks coped with concrete. At the time of survey, the roof was being replaced. Modern metal up and over door, sheeted timber side door. Gates: dashed boundary walls with smooth base and coping, four dashed piers with soldier-coursed top and concrete copings; concave recess containing sunburst metal gates.
