Description

Hawkin's Bridge, located on Glenvale Road in Desert, County Down, is an 18th-century bridge of random granite rubble construction, likely dating between 1780 and 1799. The small segmental arch carries a minor road over a tributary stream of the Clanrye River. The bridge is built with roughly dressed granite voussoirs and is coped with roughly squared granite blocks. Its plan is slightly curved, and the carriageway is slightly humped. It is considered to be of industrial archaeological interest. The bridge was marked as Hawkins Br on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834.
