Description
This is a late 19th-century terrace house located on the northwest side of the street, facing the sea. It is the second house from the right in a group of four similar three-story, two-bay houses that contribute to the character of the seafront. The roof is pitched and covered with natural slate, with a rendered chimney at the right end. A modern skylight has been added to the front roof slope, and the eaves are accentuated by a moulded course carrying aluminium gutters.
The front facade is rendered and painted, with decorative rustication on the ground floor and vertical lines on the upper floor. A chamfered basecourse and continuous moulded sills run along the upper floors. The left bay is narrower than the right and contains the main entrance, which features a semi-elliptical opening with lined voussoirs. The two-panelled door has glazed sidelights with aprons, and consoles carry a timber entablature below a fanlight containing a roundel. Above the door is a single, top-hung uPVC window on each upper floor; the first-floor window has a moulded architrave, while the second-floor window is slightly reduced in height. The right bay features a full-height canted bay window, with a roof tied into the main roof and shared eaves. Each face of the bay window has a top-hung uPVC window, with the first-floor windows having moulded architraves and the second-floor windows slightly reduced in height. A rendered dwarf wall encloses the front garden, where a modern tiled path leads to the entrance, with no gate.
The left gable forms a party wall with number 3 Seaview, and the right gable forms a party wall with number 5 Seaview. The rear elevation was not inspected. The house first appears in the Valuation Revision book of 1880 and was occupied from 1881 onwards.
