The building comprises a pair of single-storey, six-bay, direct entry houses constructed between 1840 and 1859. These houses are located in a roadside position in Tullyheran, Maghera, facing southwest and set back behind small gardens enclosed by low walling. The houses may have originally been built as “cotter” houses connected to a local farm or small estate rather than as part of a traditional smallholding.

The houses were not depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1832, but are shown as a simple rectangle on the revision of 1854. The wall construction is of roughly plastered and whitened rubble stone on the front elevation, with the stone exposed at the sides and rear. Each house has a central doorway flanked by metal-framed casement windows with three vertical panes. The door to the left-hand (north-west) house is missing, and the door to the right-hand house is ledged, braced, and timber sheeted. Each kitchen hearth is served by a rendered corbelled chimney stack; one rises from the gable of the left-hand house and the other is centrally placed to serve the right-hand house. The corrugated iron roofing terminates in a concrete parapet on the left-hand side and is finished flush over the gable on the opposite side. The eaves of the roof of the right-hand house terminate at the front with a canted fascia board. Traces of an original thatched roof remain beneath the corrugated iron. The extent of the listing includes the pair of houses and the front walling.
