Description
Castell is a single-storey house featuring a corrugated roof and end chimney stacks. The front is roughcast and symmetrical, with a central doorway that has a 20th-century panelled door, and a square four-pane window on each side, each with shallow moulded hoods above. The sides and rear are constructed from painted rubble. To the left, there is a former byre covered with a corrugated sheet roof and an end doorway. On the right, there is a small corrugated lean-to. The rear of the house includes a full-width stone outshut with a slated and felted roof.
Internally, the house is said to have two rooms with a kitchen located in the outshut. The ceilings are made of hardboard, and the walls are boarded, with some areas of lath and plaster visible. There are Victorian cast iron fireplaces and boarded doors. The byre is reported to have exposed collared roof trusses and extensive areas of straw thatch mixed with gorse. An intermediate loft floor is supported by beams with wide floorboards, and there is a crude timber planked partition.
