Description
15 Tamnymullan Lane is a single-storey, three-bay, direct entry house dating from around 1820–1839, located at the end of a winding lane approximately a mile north-west of Maghera on the Moneysharvan Road, travelling towards Swatragh. The building appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1832 and remained unchanged on the 1854 revision.
The dwelling is constructed of stone finished in whitened roughcast with a black recessed base. The original thatch roof has been retained but is now covered with corrugated iron sheeting. Concrete skews, each rising to a corbelled brick chimney, contain the roofing over the first two bays; the chimney on the right serves the kitchen and has a flue pipe as a pot. Living accommodation extends a further bay towards the outbuildings.
The entrance features a timber ledged and sheeted door flanked to the left by a single vertically sliding sashed window (3/6 pane with one canted and one rounded sash stop) and to the right by two sashed windows with exposed frames and concrete sills of traditional depth. The right-hand window beside the entrance has 1/2 panes with moulded sash stops; the final window has a small plain sash over one of double depth, also with moulded sash stops. Two steps with small door blocks lead to the entrance. Proceeding along the front elevation, there is a ledged and timber sheeted door, followed by a large 4/4 metal window with the top section and one of the bottom panes opening, then three timber ledged and sheeted stable-type doors, the third of which has a sheet of corrugated plastic fixed to the upper panel.
Outbuildings extend from the north-west gable and include a stone-built byre with pitched corrugated iron covered roof, entered by a stable-type door with the top section missing. Abutting this on the north-east side is a brick-built lean-to structure with corrugated iron covering, retaining the cast iron bottom part of a stable-type door. A further brick-built lean-to store with corrugated asbestos roof and a small gable window adjoins the south-east gable of the dwelling. Two early trusses support the outbuilding roofs alongside modern sawn construction. The outbuildings are finished in roughcast or harling.
Acceptable modifications have been made within the original layout to provide a scullery and add an internal porch. Timber ledged and sheeted doors remain throughout. The rear of the building is overgrown and inaccessible.
