The remains of a former thatched cottage, dating from approximately 1820 to 1839, stand on an open, elevated site overlooking the sea in the Portmuck townland, near Islandmagee. The cottage is now in a completely derelict and ruinous condition, consisting of harled blackstone rubble. Associated with the cottage are the remains of a thatched potato house situated to the east, connected by a right-angled stone wall. The cottage was originally described in a 1972 survey as having harled and whitened walls and three chimneys, with a length of approximately 30 metres, encompassing both the dwelling and outbuildings under a single roof. It featured three sash windows on the southeast side: one with 16 panes, one with 12 panes, and one plain sash. The entrance door was originally sheeted. The site is shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1832. The building was first listed in 1979, but was delisted on February 27, 1989, at which point it was already in a derelict state. The building is privately owned and has no specific architectural or historical interest recorded.
