Description

The Glynn Village Hall is a building of vernacular revival style, constructed in 1931, with a rear wing added in the 1990s. It is situated in a detached position, set back slightly from Main Road and positioned between houses and the grounds of a school. The hall is rectangular with a lateral gabled wing extending to each side. The front elevation, facing east, is finished in white painted roughcast with black painted half-timbering to the apex, and features buttresses to either side. The original panelled front door retains a twin mullioned fanlight above, set in a semi-circular opening with a projecting drip moulding on brackets. Original concrete steps are present, with new handrails and exterior lights added. The south elevation has four openings between buttresses, with a later return gable to the rear. These openings contain segmental arched windows with new PVC frames featuring a transom and two mullions, presumed to be to the original pattern; the easternmost window now incorporates a new side door accessed by new concrete steps with handrails. The roof is covered in Bangor blue slates in regular courses, topped with an original ventilator featuring an ogee cupola and finial. The west and north elevations are of plain character, featuring windows with PVC frames. Rainwater goods are of light gauge metal and are not original. Surrounding paving is of new concrete flags. The boundary wall is cement rendered with concrete copings and is not original. The original roughcast gate piers with hemispherical caps are present, but the gates are new, made of galvanised steel. The building’s inscription confirms the date of 1931, and the rear wing dates to the 1990s.
