Ballycarry Lodge, Red Hall, Ballycarry, Larne, Co Antrim

Ballycarry Lodge, also known as Red Hall, is an early to mid-19th century building of modest size, notable as part of a larger country house estate. It is currently derelict and has lost some of its original features.

The lodge is a single-storey building with three bays and a hipped roof, featuring a gabled projecting porch. The roof is covered in regular courses of Bangor Blue slates. The walls are smooth rendered, but sections are missing to reveal the underlying basalt rubble walling and brick dressings. A central chimney is smooth rendered. The windows have been blocked up. A boundary wall and greystone gatescreen are present.

The building is located immediately behind the screen wall at a secondary entrance to the Red Hall estate and is situated within the built-up area of a village, with one side wall close to and parallel with the main road.

Built as a gate lodge to Red Hall, the building is shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1858 but not on a map from 1831. The precise year of construction is unknown, but it likely dates from around 1850.
