Old Presbyterian Church (Non-Subscribing Presbyterian), Main Street, Ballycarry, Larne, Co Antrim

The Old Presbyterian Church, located on Main Street in Ballycarry, Larne, County Antrim, is a T-shaped building dating from around 1880 to 1899. It is constructed with rendered walls, raised quoins, and a slated roof. The windows are timber fixed lights set within segmental headed openings, replacing original sliding sash windows. A projecting gabled porch, containing a semi-circular headed window, provides the main entrance on the front elevation.

Originally built in 1710, the church was initially constructed of rough cast stone, whitewashed, with a thatched roof and earthen floors to the aisles. The building has undergone significant alterations since this original construction. The congregation itself was established in 1613 and represents the first Presbyterian congregation in Ireland. The church sits within a walled enclosure and faces the main street of the village. Its location is near the site of a scheduled monument, ANT 47:9, which marks the location of a medieval chapel and graveyard known as ‘Brakenberghe Church’. While the building has some significance by association, it is considered to have no particular architectural or historical merit.
