Horsborough Mausoleum, Old Graveyard, Ballycarry, Larne, Co Antrim

This early 19th-century mausoleum, built in the Tudor Revival style, stands within the ruins of a church in Ballycarry, County Antrim. It is situated in the corner of the chancel and is constructed primarily of dressed sandstone. The west-facing front features three recessed Tudor arched panels; the left panel is inscribed "Smiley," the central panel contains a doorway now secured by a sheet iron door, and the right panel bears a dedicatory inscription to the Horsborough family. The north side is built of roughly lime-plastered basalt rubble. The rear and south sides are integrated into the walls of the church. The roof is overgrown.

The mausoleum was built by John Horsborough to commemorate his mother, Agnes, who died in 1787, and his brother, Alexander, who died in 1821. It dates from the 1820s or early to mid-1830s, and also contains the remains of John Horsborough himself, who died in 1837. The structure is located within the area of the ancient monument ANT 47:10. The mausoleum is situated within Templecorran graveyard, a rural setting on the southern edge of Forthill village, surrounding a church dating back to at least the 17th century.
