Description

This is a cow-tailed water pump situated on the corner of North Street and Peel Gardens in Ballinderry, Lisburn, County Antrim. The pump likely dates from between 1880 and 1899. It is a fairly plain example, featuring a closed head, spirally decorated column, and a replacement top. The pump is noted as an example of industrial archaeological interest. It appeared on Ordnance Survey maps of 1902 and 1920 (reference numbers OS 10/1/63/10/1 and 2), and further details can be found in Fred Hammond’s 1997 report, 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland: A Preliminary Survey', under pump number 61.
