Description
This is a two-bay, single-storey former lock-keeper’s cottage with an attic, situated along the Lagan Navigation canal. It was surveyed during earlier heritage surveys but was not formally listed and a partial record only was taken. The building has undergone inappropriate renovations in the mid-twentieth century, including the enlargement of windows and the replacement of most original materials and finishes. The original lock gates remain, though largely overgrown, and the timber bridge is in a state of near collapse. Despite its later alterations, the building retains industrial archaeological interest. It currently functions as part of the canal structure.
