Description

This is a late eighteenth-century lock, built of sandstone blocks laid in courses, situated between the Aghalee and Aghagallon Bridges in Killough. The structure, part of Reach 13 of the Lagan Navigation (ANT 067:501) and catalogued as IHR no. 02680:041:00, is a scheduled monument. A modern house and a timber jetty adjacent to the site have impacted the setting, and there has been some disruption to the stonework on one side of the lock. The lock retains its function as a canal structure and is of industrial archaeological interest.
