Public Water Pump and Trough, Main Street, Belleek, Co Fermanagh

This public water pump and trough is located in a prominent position in the centre of Belleek, Co Fermanagh, and dates from between 1880 and 1899. It serves as a reminder of the time when street-side water pumps were the primary source of drinking water. The pump is of rotary type and retains its associated cast-iron horse trough, which is of particular significance. The pump’s design features a fluted, splay-shaped column and a fluted cap topped with a pointed finial. A metal plate affixed to the cap identifies the manufacturer as F.W. Brackett & Co Ltd, Engineers, Colchester, England. The structure is of industrial archaeological interest and holds local historical and social, cultural, and economic importance due to its rarity and association with the area’s past.
