Description
A thatched cottage was situated in Legmacaffry, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh. The building first appeared on the Ordnance Survey 6-inch map of 1857 and is believed to have been constructed between 1840 and 1859. In 1862, it was occupied by Hanna Murray and had a valuation of 10 shillings. The cottage was described in a 1983 survey as a one-storey building of four bays with a thatched roof. It featured a windbreak porch with a door, and the thatch was dressed down to meet the porch. Scalloped detailing was present at the ridge and eaves, and the gables were not thatched. A single crosswall brick chimney was visible, along with double-hung sash windows, two of which had horizontal divisions. The walls were constructed of stone. The cottage has since been demolished to make way for a replacement dwelling. It represented a vernacular style of building.
