Description

This is a two-storey, three-bay vernacular farmhouse of significant character, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859. It is situated to the east of Killycarnan Bridge. The house is accessed via random rubble gate piers supporting a wrought-iron gate. The roof is pitched and covered with artificial slate, featuring two wet-dashed brick chimneys, one positioned between each bay. An advanced eaves course supports half-round metal rainwater goods.

The principal façade faces northeast and is built of wet-dashed random rubble. The ground floor windows are predominantly 2/2 sliding sashes, while those on the first floor are 1/1 sashes, all featuring horns and painted stone cills. A glazed timber door with narrow sidelights and transom is centrally located, flanked by windows. A window is positioned above the door and within the flanking bays, with upper floor windows slightly reduced in height. The left gable has a 2/2 sliding sash without a cill at first-floor centre.

The rear elevation incorporates a single-storey lean-to addition to the right of centre; this has a t+g sheeted door on its left side and a boarded window opening on its rear face, with a blank right side. Modern timber casement windows are present on the rear elevation, along with a top-hung timber window with a concrete cill in the left bay, and a 1/1 sliding sash window on the first floor of that bay. The right gable features a small 1/1 exposed box sliding sash window to the first-floor centre.

To the northwest, a single-storey outbuilding with a pitched corrugated metal roof and lime-washed random rubble walls is situated.

A building is indicated on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map, and by 1862, it was occupied by John Rodden and valued at £2.5s.0d. The building is of local historical interest. The listing includes the house, outbuildings, gates, gate piers, and boundary wall.
