Description

This is a single-story, four-bay thatched cottage, dating from approximately the 1820s to 1839, situated on Drumgramph Road, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh. It retains much of its original character, despite some internal refurbishment and a rear extension. The building is aligned east-west along the roadside and is accompanied by outbuildings abutting the right gable.

The principal, south-facing elevation has cement-dashed and painted walls. A modern windbreak porch with a t&g sheeted door sits to the left of the second bay, flanked by blank cheeks. The windows are 2/2 sliding sashes with concrete cills, with similar detailing in each bay. The left gable is blank. The rear elevation is adjoined to the right bay by a modern extension accessed via a narrow link corridor. This extension has a pitched artificial slate roof, cement-dashed walls, and modern casement windows with concrete cills, and a glazed t&g sheeted door on its western face. The exposed left and centre bays of the rear elevation have modern casement windows. The right gable abuts a lower outbuilding, with a blank section exposed. The outbuildings have pitched corrugated-metal roofs and t&g doors.

A building is depicted on the site on the 1834/35 Ordnance Survey map, although it was not recorded in the contemporary valuation records. It appeared in the 1862 valuation, listing Bernard Maguire as the occupant, John McClintock Esq as the lessor, and a rateable value of £1.

The cottage, along with its associated barns, is listed due to its architectural style, proportions, plan form, structural system, and setting, as well as its rarity and local historical interest. It is a vernacular thatched house. The current address is 11 Teer Road, Teer, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 6GT.
