Description
The cottage at Cloncallick, near Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, was likely built around 1860 and demolished to allow for a replacement dwelling. It was not present on the Ordnance Survey map of 1834, but a small structure is depicted on the 1857 map, and the building assumed its present form by 1907. According to the 1862 Valuation, its value was £1.10s.0d.
The cottage was described as a one and two-storey thatched building with outhouses. It featured one stucco chimney in each part, with thatch continuing to the skews at the left-hand gable, supported by timber. A stone corbel at the two-storey gable suggests the original roof height was later raised when the roof was slated. The walls were whitewashed with a tarred plinth. The windows were a mix of plain and small-pane double-hung sash windows. A sheeted door was set within a curved, thatched windbreak porch. Stone cills were present at the two-storey section, which also had a sheeted door at its extreme right, along with a half-round gutter.
