Description

This is a one-and-a-half-storey, three-bay vernacular house located on a lane to the west of Teer Townland, Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh. The house, originally thatched, likely dates from the early 19th century, probably between 1820 and 1839, and is aligned north-south. It was valued at £1 in the 1862 Valuation.

The structure has undergone numerous alterations, resulting in a significant loss of original character. It is now covered by a pitched roof of artificial slate raised on four courses of concrete blocks over the original eaves. Modern brick chimneys are set within the party wall between each bay, and the eaves are boxed with no rainwater goods. The walls are lime-rendered over a rubble stone core. All windows are timber framed, with stone cills.

The principal, east-facing elevation features a modern timber side-hung casement window in the left bay, a 1/1 sliding sash window with horns to the left and a modern timber door to the right in the central bay, and a modern timber fixed-pane window to the right. The left gable has a 1/1 sliding sash window at the former apex. The rear elevation includes a timber-sheeted door with a glazed panel in the left bay, a replacement fixed-pane window to its right, a small 2x3 fixed pane window (without a cill) in the central bay, and a 1/1 sliding sash window in the right bay. The right gable is adjoined by a single-slope lean-to outbuilding with walls of rubble stone. The outbuilding’s exposed section features a replacement fixed-pane window to the apex, whilst the corrugated metal roof covers only the left side. The outbuilding has a timber door and a 1/1 sliding sash window in its left cheek, with a window opening in its right cheek, and a blank front face.

A building is shown on the 1834 Ordnance Survey six-inch map, and the property was recorded in the 1862 Valuation.
