Description

This is a two-storey, three-bay Victorian terrace house located on Irish Green Street in Limavady, Co Londonderry. The house, constructed between 1880 and 1899, is rendered in a Georgian style and faces east. It was originally indicated on the 1848 Ordnance Survey Map and had a valuation of £8 in the 1858 Griffiths Valuation.

The front elevation features twelve-pane sliding sash windows on both the ground and first floors, with painted brick cills. A door with a rectangular fanlight, which has a cobweb pattern to the closely spaced astragals, is located at the northern end of the facade. The door is flanked by thin Tuscan pilasters in sand cement, supporting a projecting entablature. A cement threshold step extends approximately 500mm out onto the pavement. A flat-roofed extension across the full width of the roof incorporates three casement windows that mimic the Georgian style of the windows below. There is a rendered chimney at the south end of the former ridge, and a brick chimney at the north.

A flat-roofed two-storey return extension extends to the rear at an awkward angle due to the plot boundary. A flat-roofed extension into the roof space is also present at the rear, featuring modern timber casement windows. A whitewashed brick stable, connected to the adjacent property at number 57, is located behind the main house.

The intricate detail of the fanlight suggests a possible earlier construction date than the documented range of 1880-1899. The house has been continuously occupied as a dwelling. Historic maps from 1848, 1895, and 1907, along with valuation records, are held at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI). A white washed brick stable joined to that of number 57 sits behind the house. Grossly inappropriate rooftop extensions and modern additions and alterations to the rear have removed the building's original justification for listing.
