Limavady High School, Irish Green Street, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 9AA

The former Limavady High School was a Neo-Georgian brick secondary school, constructed between 1931 and 1932, designed by Roland Ingleby Smith of the Northern Ireland Ministry of Finance architects’ Department. The building, located on Irish Green Street in Limavady, was in continuous use as a school until its demolition in the mid-1990s as part of a redevelopment.

The original design comprised a central five-bay block topped by a square clock turret, flanked by lower three-bay wings containing projecting porch entrances. The building was originally constructed in rustic brick with reconstituted stone dressings, and featured a hipped roof. While the interiors were described as unremarkable, the long main entrance front was considered a fine example of Neo-Georgian design in brick and presented an attractive appearance to the main road.

Entrance pillars from the original boundary wall remain, some constructed in cut sandstone with pyramidal caps, others in rendered concrete block.
