Description
This is a small, single-storey contemporary dwelling built between 1940 and 1959 in the Artikelly townland, near Limavady, County Londonderry. Designed in 1951 by Corr & McCormick, with design assistance from K Campbell, it was originally constructed as a subsidy bungalow during a period of building material restrictions. The house is characterized by its flat roof and functional, constructivist architectural style, employing panels of red brick contrasted with white roughcast rendering to create interesting surface modelling. Painted timber windows and doors are complemented by a deep timber fascia and a timber pergola supported on slender steel columns, completing the rectangular form of the building. A separate garage is carefully positioned in relation to the house, both spatially and in terms of its massing. The house sits on a raised site, set well back from Windyhill Road, with the front garden extending across the plot. A paved area and the garage are located at the rear. The house presents a pergola and gable end towards the road.
