Drenagh Estate Coach house, 17 Dowland Road, Fruithill, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 0HP

This is a substantial and symmetrical group of outbuildings, forming a courtyard in a formal Georgian classical style. Dating to the 1840s, these structures are contemporary with the main Drenagh House and attributed to the architect Charles Lanyon. They are situated northeast of the main house and beyond the former land steward’s dwelling. The buildings consist of three ranges of roughly equal length, enclosing the courtyard, with a walled section completing the fourth side. Centrally placed within the wall is a gate flanked by piers.

The central coach house block features a shallow, pedimented front with six elliptical gateways; above each gateway is a square, louvred opening for ventilation of the first floor. The flanking ranges, each seven bays long, have round-headed doorways with fanlights on the ground floor, alongside 12-pane sash windows. The upper floors are ventilated by seven louvred openings in each range. All ranges have slated, gabled roofs and abut one another at a single corner. A large bellcote is situated on the northeast gable of the southeastern range.

Attached to the coach house is a two-story dwelling, faced with red brick on the northwest facade and half of the northeast gable, with the remainder in sandstone. External steps provide access to the floor above the coach house.

An antique petrol pump is located near the entrance to the courtyard. A later date of 1908 is rendered on the gable, with a secondary date of 1986 indicating renovation. The listing includes the coach house, stables, courtyard, enclosing walls, piers, gates and attached dwelling.
