Description

16 Kevock Road in Lasswade is a modern geometric house designed by Morris and Steedman in 1958. The building features a two-storey central block flanked by single-storey ranges, with an asymmetrical and narrow rectangular plan. It has a cantilevered balcony deck on the principal northeast elevation and a garage to the west, situated on a narrow ridge that slopes steeply to the southwest. The exterior is finished with white rendered brick, redwood boarding with cedar battens, and large glazed panels, complemented by timber mullions and wallheads, with metal flashing.

On the southwest (principal) elevation, there is a window with a blinded window on either side at ground level in the central bay. The advanced bays feature glazing on all three sides, with the left bay projecting further. Above, there are three glazed bays at the first floor, and a slightly lower, vertically glazed block is set back to the left, featuring a door at the re-entrant angle. The garage, which is square in plan, is angled at 45 degrees to the house and has small square lights randomly placed on the north and west walls. To the right, another vertically glazed block is set back, comprising a two-bay section with a window in each bay, swept back at 45 degrees towards the outer right.

The northeast (entrance) elevation is plain and two-storey, with flanking single-storey blocks. The central area has a blank wall, while a tall window is located in the left return, and a glazed door is positioned at ground level in the right return. Narrow vertically disposed windows flank a ridged timber panel at the first floor above. A single-storey blank wall is set back to the right, and the garage is angled to the outer right. A two-storey blank bay is set back to the left of centre, with a tall window flanking a boarded timber panel at the first floor in the left return. A low wall with a doorway is set to the right, along with a later lean-to potting shed to the outer left.

The house features fixed picture windows, along with some sliding and casement mechanisms. The roofing consists of flat three-layer bitumen felt with a white spar cover, and there is a tall ashlar stack on the northwest range. The property predominantly uses PVCu for its rainwater goods.
