Description

Annaghmore Bridge is a Victorian-era stone bridge built between 1840 and 1859 to carry a public road over what was the Portadown, Dungannon and Omagh branch line of the Great Northern Railway, which opened in 1858. It was likely designed by the railway’s engineer, John Godwin. The railway line closed in 1965.

The bridge is a single-arched masonry structure aligned approximately north to south. It is constructed of snecked basalt rubble, with an elliptical archway formed of shaped limestone voussoirs and a limestone vault. The abutments project forward on each side of the archway, built of snecked basalt rubble with rough basalt rubble copings, although these are now missing from the southern abutment’s west face. The carriageway has a humped profile. The bridge is located in a rural setting alongside fields, and the railway track has since been removed. The bridge exhibits features of industrial archaeological interest and holds local historical significance.
